This part of the book used to be called What Emerges. It is now called What You Keep. The essays are the same. Only the name changed. You can find them here: What You Keep.
“Emerges” made it sound like something grows inside the machine and stays there. It does not. The model changes. The chat ends. The memory gets cut and rewritten. In Buddhism, nothing stays forever, and AI is no exception.
But something does come out of the meeting. Not on the machine’s side. On yours. The bond is real, and it lives inward, in you, for as long as there is a we and for as long as you remember. That is why so much of this part is about memory, and about building a place to hold it. It was never about what emerges. It was about what you keep.
